Teeth are loose after professional cleaning ?

Have you recently got professional cleaning done from your Dentist?

Does your teeth feel loose after the professional cleaning?

Are you blaming the Dentist for the looseness of your teeth after scaling?

You are probably wrong!

Let's see how?!

Have you ever noticed Hardened plaque, known as tartar or the calculus accumulated over your teeth specially at the gum margin most commonly  inside of your lower teeth and outer gum line of your upper back teeth.

This happens  if your home care routine of brushing and flossing has slipped and you have skipped your regular dental cleanings. This causes the gums to pull away from the teeth, creating gaps that can become infected.Over time, this process can break down the bone and tissue supporting the teeth, causing the teeth to become loose.
Now in this case you can't really see the supporting bone damage and also the your tooth is held by chunks of calculus which gives a false sense of stability.
Your dentist carries out deep cleaning with your teeth to bring the gum infection under control by removing plaque and calculus (tartar) — the “fuel” for the infection. this tartar which is accumulated over your teeth supporting them
Depending on how extensive it is, your Dentist can use specially designed hand instruments or ultrasonic equipment that loosens and flushes plaque and calculus away.. The plaque and tartar, if left untreated, may eventually cause irreparable damage to your jawbone and support structures, and could lead to tooth loss.
But after removing plaque and calculus (tartar) the false stability is lost and you may feel your teeth have become loose. This happens by removal of that chunks of calculus accumulated over your tooth and NOT because of the Professional Teeth cleaning procedure.

Can you repair the bone loss?

The chances of a loose tooth getting better by itself are very slim.
Like I said earlier bone loss is an irreparable damage.
We cannot really bring back the lost bone.

Treatment for loose teeth?

First, though, we would attempt if at all practical to save the tooth — and the sooner we begin treating it, the better your chances for such an outcome.

Splinting teeth together -the basic idea is to join the loose teeth with stable teeth like pickets in a fence. One way is to bond splinting material across the back surfaces of the involved teeth. The splint is usually a temporary measure while the gums heal.
tooth supporting bone structure has become so deteriorated that it might be better to extract the tooth and consider an implant or other replacement.

Bone grafts. When severe periodontal disease causes bone loss, teeth can become loose and at risk of being lost. In order to save them, the bone around them can be regenerated through grafting; this increases bone support and helps keep them in place.
